Type specimen: NFL 18, a partial skull (frontals, squamosals, pari- etals, vomer, pterygoid, basisphenoid, basioccipital, exoccipitals, right periotic and presternum). Its type locality is Ishikari-Numata Station, east, which is in a Messinian marine horizon in the Horokaoshirarika Formation of Japan.
