Belongs to Stethothyris according to N. Hiller and D. A. MacKinnon 2000
Sister taxon: Stethothyris antarctica
Type specimen: NZGS Br1270, a shell. Its type locality is Tuff Band, Weston's Quarry, which is in a Runangan carbonate limestone in the Ototara Formation of New Zealand.

Distribution:
• Oligocene of New Zealand (2 collections)
• Eocene of New Zealand (3)
Total: 5 collections each including a single occurrence
