Type specimens:

  • Phlaocyon annectens: CM 1602, a partial skull (the upper and lower jaws, the dentition being complete with the exception of the lower incisors). Its type locality is Beardog Hill, which is in a Harrisonian fluvial sandstone in the Marsland Formation of Nebraska.
  • Phlaocyon willistoni: CM 11332, 11333, a partial skull.
