Sister taxon: Eucastor malheurensis
Type specimen: USNM 11020, a partial skull (partial palate and rostrum with incisors and right and left P4-M3). Its type locality is Niobrara River (coll. Hayden 1857), which is in a Barstovian/Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Loup Fork Formation of Nebraska.
