Type specimen: CIT 332, a partial skull ( skull without the zygomatic arches, the posterior part of the cranium, and the left cheek teeth; incisors broken off at alveoli.). Its type locality is Skull Spring, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial volcaniclastic in the Butte Creek Formation of Oregon.
