Sister taxon: Glyptotherium texanum
Type specimens:
- Glyptotherium cylindricum: AMNH 15548, a partial skeleton (complete carapace, cephalic plates, atlas, hyoids, several ribs, a chevron and 20 separate teeth)
- Glyptotherium floridanum: AMNH 23547, an osteoderm. Its type locality is Seminole Field, which is in a Pleistocene fluvial sandstone in Florida.
- Glyptotherium mexicanum: IGM 4006, an osteoderm.
Distribution:
• Quaternary of Brazil (2 collections), Honduras (2), Mexico (14), United States (10: Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas), Venezuela (5)
Total: 33 collections each including a single occurrence
