Type specimen: AMNH 1196, a partial skeleton (skull and parts of skeleton). Its type locality is Indian Stronghold (Protoceras Channel), which is in a Whitneyan fluvial sandstone in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.

• Oligocene of Canada (1: Saskatchewan), United States (4: Nebraska, Oregon, South Dakota)
