Type specimens:

  • Michenia exilis: AMNH 12997, a partial skeleton (partial skull and fore and hind limbs). Its type locality is AMNH Rosebud 5, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Rosebud Formation of South Dakota.
  • Michenia australis: TMM 40871-1, a partial skeleton (a left mandible with P2-M3, a partial left Ml, the distal end of a humerus, the proximal end and other fragments of a left metacarpus with its unciform, and fra). Its type locality is Castolon (TMM 40871), which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in the Delaho Formation of Texas.
