Type specimens:

  • Tapocyon robustus: C. M. No. 3023, a partial skeleton (fragments of lower jaws with P4 M1 and M2 in place; fragments of vertebrae, greater portion of right humerus, and head of femur). Its type locality is Myton Pocket, which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Uinta Formation of Utah.
  • Tapocyon occidentalis: Its type locality is Tapo Canyon (Upper), which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Sespe Formation of California.

Ecology: scansorial insectivore

Distribution:

• Eocene of United States (9: California, Montana, Utah, Wyoming collections)

Total: 9 collections each including a single occurrence
