Sister taxon: Tomarctus brevirostris

Type specimen: AMNH 13836, a mandible. Its type locality is Trojan Quarry, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Olcott Formation of Nebraska.

• Miocene of Canada (11: Saskatchewan collections), United States (25: California, Nebraska, New Mexico)

Total: 36 collections each including a single occurrence
