Type specimens:

  • Paracynarctus kelloggi: UCMP 11562, a mandible (lower jaw with dentition). Its type locality is Virgin Valley, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Virgin Valley Formation of Nevada.
  • Cynodesmus casei: Its type locality is Piney River, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in the North Park Formation of Colorado.

Distribution:

• Miocene of United States (18: California, Colorado, Delaware, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Wyoming collections)

Total: 18 collections each including a single occurrence
