Sister taxon: Melvius chauliodous

Type specimen: UCMP 129600, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is UCMP V83117, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial horizon in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.

Ecology: aquatic carnivore-piscivore

Distribution:

• Cretaceous of United States (33: Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming collections)

Total: 33 collections each including a single occurrence
