Type specimens:

  • Trionyx foveatus: ANSP 9269, a partial shell (small fragments of costal and sternal plates). Its type locality is Judith River badlands (USGS), which is in a Campanian/Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Judith River Formation of Montana.
  • Aspideretes maturus: NMC 1065, a carapace. Its type locality is below mouth of Berry Creek (NMC), which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in Canada.
  • Aspideretes rugosus: ROM 775, a carapace. Its type locality is Sand Creek (125 ft level) [ROM], which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in Canada.
  • Aspideretes subquadratus: NMC 345, a carapace. Its type locality is below mouth of Berry Creek (NMC), which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in Canada.

Ecology: aquatic piscivore-carnivore

Distribution:

• Cretaceous of Canada (3: Alberta collections), United States (2: Montana, North Dakota)
