Sister taxa: Dunnophis cadurcensis, Dunnophis matronensis
Type specimen: AMNH 3830 (complete mid-thoracic vertebra). Its type locality is Hyopsodus Hill, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
