Type specimens:
- Helodermoides tuberculatus: C.M. No. 707, a partial skull (partial skull and mandible). Its type locality is Pipestone Springs, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial claystone in the Renova Formation of Montana.
- Glyptosaurus giganteus: CM 1471, a partial skull (greater portion of frontal region of skull, covered with osseous dermal scutes).
- Glyptosaurus montanus: CM 1050 (nearly complete skull and lower jaws, partial limb and phalangeal bones). Its type locality is McCarty's Mountain, which is in a Chadronian wet floodplain tuff in the Chadron Formation of Montana.
Ecology: ground dwelling insectivore-carnivore

• Eocene of United States (24: Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming)
