Type specimens:

  • Brachydectes newberryi: AMNH 6941 (designated by Hook (1983), a partial skull. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
  • Brachydectes elongatus: UCLA VP 2802, a partial skeleton (almost complete skeleton). Its type locality is quarry southeast of University of Oklahoma, which is in a Leonardian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Fairmont Shale Formation of Oklahoma.
  • Cocytinus gyrinoides: AMNH 6925, a partial skeleton.
  • Lysorophus tricarinatus: Its type locality is Danville Locality (Vertebrates), which is in a Missourian terrestrial horizon in the Bond Formation of Illinois.
  • Molgophis wheatleyi: AMNH 6897.
  • Pleuroptyx clavatus: AMNH 6838, a set of vertebrae. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
