Taxonomy
Pecten plebeius was named by Lamarck (1806) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Lyropecten (Aequipecten) plebeius by Glibert (1976), Glibert (1985); it was recombined as Chlamys plebeia by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Mimachlamys plebeia by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
