Taxonomy
Spathicephalus was named by Watson (1928). It is not extant. Its type is Spathicephalus mirus.

It was assigned to Loxommatoidea by Carroll (1988); and to Spathicephalidae by Beaumont (1977), Beaumont and Smithson (1998), Clack and Milner (2015).
