Tecovasaurus was named by Hunt and Lucas (1994). It is not extant.
It was assigned to Ornithischia by Hunt and Lucas (1994), Murry and Long (1997), Godefroit and Cuny (1997) and Heckert (2004); to Ornithischia by Heckert and Lucas (2006); and to Archosauriformes by Irmis (2005), Irmis et al. (2007) and Nesbitt et al. (2007).
