Taxonomy
Stenoscisma multicosta was named by Stehli (1954). Its type specimen is AMNH 27316 and is not a trace fossil.

It was corrected as Stenoscisma multicostum by Grant (1965), Cooper and Grant (1976), Liao (1979).
