It was assigned to Oreopithecidae by Kunimatsu (1997); to Proconsulidae by Andrews (1992), Harrison and Gu (1999), Zalmout et al. (2010); and to Nyanzapithecinae by Rossie and MacLatchy (2006), Nengo et al. (2017).
