Oulophyllia macropora was named by d'Orbigny (1850). Its type specimen is syntype MNHN.F.A47388 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Latimaeandra macropora by Milne-Edwards (1857), de Fromentel (1861); it was recombined as Microphyllia macropora by Beauvais (1988).
