Taxonomy
Stromatopora venezuelensis was named by Wells (1944). Its type locality is Las Cinco Ceibas, which is in an Aptian/Albian perireef or subreef limestone in the Barranquin Formation of Venezuela.

It was recombined as Blastochaetetes venezuelensis by Kiessling (2003).
