Paralenticeras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni-l K Sant-l]. Its type is Amaltheus sieversi.

It was assigned to Eulophoceratidae by Hyatt (1903); to Lenticeratinae by Wright (1952), Kennedy (1995), Wright et al. (1996); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
