Gymnotoceras blakei
Taxonomy
Ammonites blakei was named by Gabb (1864). Its type specimen is USNM 12512 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Star Canon, Humboldt, which is in an Illyrian carbonate limestone in Nevada.
It was recombined as Ceratites (Gymnotoceras) blakei by Smith (1904), Hyatt and Smith (1905), Smith (1914); it was recombined as Gymnotoceras blakei by Meek (1877), Spath (1934), Silberling and Nichols (1982), Konstantinov (1991), Monnet and Bucher (2005).
It was recombined as Ceratites (Gymnotoceras) blakei by Smith (1904), Hyatt and Smith (1905), Smith (1914); it was recombined as Gymnotoceras blakei by Meek (1877), Spath (1934), Silberling and Nichols (1982), Konstantinov (1991), Monnet and Bucher (2005).
