Taxonomy

Palaemonidae was named by Rafinesque (1815). It is extant. Its type is Palaemon.

It was assigned to Natantia by Rathbun (1918); to Caridea by Garassino and Bravi (2003); and to Palaemonoidea by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2023).
