Taxonomy
Helophilus nothobombus was named by Kotthoff and Schmid (2005). Its type specimen is SMNS 64674/39, an exoskeleton (complete fly), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Randeck Maar (SMNS coll), which is in a MN 5 crater lake lime mudstone in the Randeck Maar Formation of Germany.
