Sphaeramminidae was named by Cushman (1933). It is extant. It was considered unknown by Loeblich and Tappan (1987).

It was assigned to Lituoloidea by Loeblich and Tappan (1987); and to Lituolacea by Loeblich and Tappan (1988).
