Discussion

As for the genus: Small echymid rodent with three-crested, sigma-shaped lower molars. Mesodont. Molars long for their width. Mesoflexid, metaflexid from long, wide valleys, extending 2/3 transverse width tooth. Hypoflexid short. Flat bottoms reentrant. Antero-and posterolophids isolated when unworn, with wear connect by narrow bridges to ectolophulid and protolophid respectively. Hypolophulid reduced, posterolophid short. Mesoflexid merged with portoflexid. Hypoflexid transversely oriented. dp4 protoflexid shallow.

Taxonomy
Ricardomys longidens was named by Walton (1990) [Etymology: longidens in reference to the length and slenderness of the tooth row]. Its type specimen is IGM-DU 87-228, a mandible (Juvenile left mandible with dp4-m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Ricardomys.
