Trachyceras curionii was named by Mojsisovics (1882).

It was recombined as Protrachyceras curionii by Ogilvie Gordon (1927); it was recombined as Trachyceras (Protrachyceras) curionii by Parnes (1962); it was recombined as Eoprotrachyceras curionii by Tozer (1980), Fantini Sestini (1994), Pérez Valera (2005).
