Phyloblatta fonsecai was named by Teixeira (1946). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Santa Bárbara works, São Pedro da Cova, which is in a Stephanian C lacustrine shale in Portugal.
It was recombined as Xenoblatta fonsecai by Schneider (1978), Schneider (1983).
