Taxonomy
Dinorthis carletona was named by Twenhofel (1928) [The holotype, GSC 2030k, and two paratypes, YPM10356 and YPM11129, are from Carleton Point, Anticosti Island, Homard Member (informal), upper Vauréal Formation, upper Richmondian (upper Katian).]. Its type specimen is GSC 2030k, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Dinorthis (Pionorthis) carletona by Schuchert and Cooper (1932); it was recombined as Plaesiomys carletona by Bolton (1972), Jin and Zhan (2008); it was misspelled as Plaesiomys carltona by Wright and Stigall (2013).
