Liothyrella was named by Thomson (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R Sepkoski's reference number: 1,882]. It is extant. Its type is Terebratula uva.
It was assigned to Terebratulidae by Bitner and Crame (2002); to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Terebratulinae by Craig (2000) and Williams et al. (2006).
