Taxonomy
Ansomys cyanotephrus was named by Korth (2007). Its type specimen is CM 54080, a tooth (right M1 or M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Harris Ranch Unit E Silt, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in South Dakota.

Korth 2007Small species of the genus, similar in size to A. hepburnensis; complex pattern of lophules in the basins of the cheek teeth; metaconids not as anteroposteriorly compressed on m2-m3 as in other species; mesostylids single and hypolophids complete on lower molars; m1 and m2 longer than wide; p4 smaller than molars; m3 smaller than m2.
