Taxonomy
Ancilla (Oliverato) californica was named by Cooper (1894). Its type specimen is CAS syntypes 8a-d and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Oliverato californica by Dickerson (1913); it was recombined as Cryptochorda californica by Turner (1938); it was recombined as Cryptochorda (Cryptochorda) californica by Squires (1984) and Squires (1987).
