Taxonomy
Didelphodus was named by Cope (1882). It is not extant. Its type is Deltatherium absarokae. It is the type genus of Didelphodontinae.

It was assigned to Proviverridae by Scott (1892), Hay (1902); to Didelphodontinae by Hay (1930), Van Valen (1967); to Cimolestidae by Lopatin (2006); and to Cimolestidae by Cope (1882), McKenna and Bell (1997), Rose et al. (2012).
