Taxonomy
Baptanodon reedi was named by Gilmore (1907). Its type specimen is UW DB, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dutton Creek Basin, which is in a Callovian/Oxfordian marine horizon in the Sundance Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Ophthalmosaurus reedi by Hay (1930).
