Taxonomy
Amphimachairodus alvarezi was named by Ruiz-Ramoni et al. (2019). Its type specimen is IGM 6414 and 6415, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Rinconada, which is in a Hemphillian fluvial horizon in the Rancho Viejo Beds Formation of Mexico.
