Bryanpattersonia was named by Simpson (1967). Its type is Archaeohyrax nesodontoides.

It was synonymized subjectively with Archaeotypotherium by Croft et al. (2003).

It was assigned to Archaeohyracidae by Simpson (1967) and Carroll (1988).
