Taxonomy
Trachyrincus tewaewae was named by Schwarzhans et al. (2017). Its type specimen is NMNZ S.46913, an otolith, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Te Waewae Bay, which is in a Duntroonian marine siltstone in New Zealand.
