Pantolestes nuptus was named by Cope (1882) [also said to be 1881, but paper actually published in 1882.].
It was recombined as Trigonolestes nuptus by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Diacodexis nuptus by Gazin (1952); it was recombined as Cynodontomys nuptus by Guthrie (1967) and Gingerich (1980); it was considered a nomen oblitum by Szalay (1969); it was recombined as Arctodontomys nuptus by Gunnell (1985).
