Taxonomy
Xanthilites cretacea was named by Segerberg (1900). It is the type species of Jakobsenius.

It was recombined as Jakobsenius cretacea by Schweitzer (2005); it was recombined as Jakobsenius cretaceous by Schweitzer et al. (2010); it was recombined as Jakobsenius cretaceus by Robin et al. (2016), Schweitzer et al. (2018).
