Taxonomy
Aelurocyon spissidens was named by White (1947). Its type locality is Thomas Farm, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial sandstone/claystone in the Alachua Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Enhydrocyon spissidens by Olsen (1958); it was recombined as Euoplocyon spissidens by Tedford and Frailey (1976), Wang et al. (1999) and Wang et al. (2008).
