Gerastos arcus was named by Van Viersen and Prescher (2010) [Paratypes
Two cephala (IRSNB a12782, a12783), one mostly exfoliated complete specimen (IRSNB a12784).]. Its type specimen is IRSNB a12781, a cephalothorax, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pl. Couvin 11a, Petigny, which is in an Eifelian marine mixed carbonate-siliciclastic in the Jemelle Formation of Belgium.
