Taxonomy
Phanerorhynchus armatus was named by Gill (1923). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sparth, Rochdale, which is in a Bashkirian/Moscovian deltaic ironstone in the Pennine Middle Coal Measures Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Phanerorhynchus.
