Taxonomy

Lamna acuminata was named by Agassiz (1835).

It was recombined as Cretoxyrhina acuminata by Herman (1977); it was recombined as Acrolamna acuminata by Jambura et al. (2024).

Synonyms

Lamna petrocoriensis was named by Coquand (1859).

It was synonymized subjectively with Cretoxyrhina acuminata by Herman (1977); it was recombined as Cretoxyrhina petrocoriensis by Cahuzac et al. (2007).
Otodus oxyrhinoides was named by Sauvage (1872).

It was synonymized subjectively with Isurus mantelli by Weiler (1964); it was synonymized subjectively with Cretoxyrhina acuminata by Herman (1977).
