Encrinurus elegantulus was named by Billings (1866) [The type specimen is a lectotype chosen by Edgecombe and Chatterton (1992). Rämskold and Edgecombe (1994) also declare "Syntype pygidium on slab GSC 2551 is Distyrax n. sp.".]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is GSC 2551, a cephalon/head (Incomplete cranidium).
It was recombined as Encrinurus (Nucleurus) elegantulus by Ramsköld (1986); it was recombined as Wallacia elegantula by Ramskold and Edgecombe (1994).
