Taxonomy
Washakius was named by Leidy (1873). It is not extant. Its type is Washakius insignis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anaptomorphus by Cope (1877) and Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Insectivora by Leidy (1873); to Pseudolemuridae by Schlosser (1877); to Anaptomorphinae by Wortman (1904); to Omomyinae by Simpson (1940); to Omomyidae by Gazin (1958) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Washakiini by Szalay (1976), Honey (1990), Muldoon and Gunnell (2002), Gunnell and Rose (2002) and Holroyd and Strait (2008).
