Taxonomy
Juglans egregia was named by Lesquereux (1878). Its type specimen is U.C. Mus. Pal. Paleobot. Ser. plesiotypes nos. 2307, 2308, 2309, 2310, 2311, 231 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Gordonia egregia by MacGinitie (1941).
