It was assigned to Chondrostei by Woodward (1895), Hay (1902); to Selachostomi by Jordan (1963); to Acipenseriformes by Estes and Berberian (1970), Bryant (1989), Grande et al. (2002), Betancur et al. (2013); and to Acipenseroidei by Grande and Bemis (1996), Grande and Hilton (2006), Nelson et al. (2016).
